YEA rent jumps from GH¢3.2m to GH¢5.5m

The Youth Employment Agency’s (YEA) dramatic 72% increase in rent payments from GH¢3.2 million in 2023 to GH¢5.5 million in 2024 has sparked concern from Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

The Ministry of Works and Housing gave the Agency’s existing facility to Messrs. K&A Developers as private managers in 2023, which is when the payments started, according to YEA management.

Malik Basintale, the CEO of YEA, and other YEA executives faced criticism for their silence on the sharp increase in rental prices when they appeared before the Committee on Friday, August 22, 2025.

George Opare Addo, the Minister for Youth Development and Empowerment, responded to the Committee by stating that in order to alleviate the financial load, negotiations were still in progress with the Office of the Chief of Staff to find the Agency a permanent office location.

“The CEO and I have engaged with the Chief of Staff on getting permanent accommodation for the YEA. In due time, we will report to this august House on the plans made and the facilities made available to the Agency,” he assured.
