WRFA D2L: Complacency denied us the much needed victory against Chicago FC

The Captain of Ekuzoa Football Club, Abednego Dotsey Atakpa was left frustrated after his side succumbed to a pulsating 2-2 draw with Chicago FC in the ongoing Western Regional Division Two League at the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Sports Arena in Ampain. The game, which looked well within reach for Ekuzoa FC, took a surprising turn when smugness crept in after taking an early lead. The match seemed like it was already sealed in their favor, but as the final whistle blew, Ekuzoa FC found themselves settling for a draw instead of the much-needed win.

Former TanoeAkuba SC and Basake United midefielder, Abednego Atakpa admitted in his post-match submission with AB TV that, they felt too confident with a false sense of security, ultimately not executing their game plan as intended.

“We should have won this game,” he reflected with frustration. “This is football, and sometimes it doesn’t go your way.” His words captured the disappointment felt by the entire squad after their inability to close out the match despite having opportunities to seal the deal. Atakpa also accentuated that the team must learn from this setback as they aim for future success, stressing that they cannot afford to become complacent again in their push for a spot in the middle league.

Despite the disappointment of drawing, the captain remained optimistic, declaring that Ekuzoa FC is fully prepared to face the challenge of the middle league should they qualify. The team understands that every game counts and that they need to be sharper and more disciplined in the upcoming matches to have a shot at moving up. The draw with Chicago FC may have been a bitter pill to swallow, but it also served as a valuable lesson in the unpredictable nature of football.

As the season progresses, Ekuzoa FC is determined to stay focused and continue their pursuit of excellence. With the captain leading by example, the team knows they must leave laxity behind and approach every game with the intensity and focus it deserves. The road to the middle league is still within reach, but it will take resilience, hard work, and the determination to avoid costly mistakes like the one that occurred in this draw.
