The Electoral Commission’s proposal to rerun the parliamentary election in 19 polling places within the constituency has been rejected by Akua Afriyie, the 2024 NPP Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North.
This comes after the EC announced a rerun following disagreements on the validity of the general election results from December 7, 2024.
She voiced her extreme disagreement of the decision in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Friday, July 2, claiming that the rerun was revealed after the process was almost finished.
She claims that the EC’s abrupt change raises severe issues because the collation had already been finished in all but three polling places.
She insists that the petition for a rerun is unwarranted because the EC already said under oath in Parliament that just three polling places remained to be declared.
She accused the NDC of swaying the outcome in its favor and questioned the EC’s consistency.
“I am not happy with it. We are not going to accept this decision. My reason is very simple. We have gone through all the collation, and we are at three polling stations for us to complete the collation and declaration, and so what changed? We had EC coming to parliament, swearing under oath that we have only three polling stations left, and consistently, that is what it has been so far.
“So if NDC is bent on taking the seat, and going to the extent of requesting a re-run and EC that has always insisted that also that we are left with only three polling stations, comes back to say that ‘we have agreed with NDC’s decision,’ then where are we? We are not agreeing to this,” she said.
