The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama has said his party and Ghanaians will resist any attempt to rig the 2024 election.
According to him, the NDC is winning the election for Ghana and not the NDC.
The former President stated this during the burial mass for the late Ambassador John Akologu Tia at Tongo in the Talensi district of the UER on Saturday.
“The reverend father talked about the coming elections and because John was a true party man, I’ll be a bit political.
“We are determined to win this election. We are determined to win this election, not for ourselves and not for NDC, but we’re winning this election for Ghana.
“This election is between Ghana and the NPP, not NDC and NPP because we need to reset our nation. We need to rescue our nation from the crisis in which it has been plunged by the NPP administration,” the former President stated.
He continued: “We expect that the elections will be peaceful because we know we’re going to win. If there’s going to be violence, it will not come from us, the NDC.
“But I will crave our Reverend fathers when you preach about peace, also preach about justice because when there’s no justice, there is no peace.
“We are for peace, but we will resist any attempts to rig this election. I assure Reverend Father that we will play our part to have a free, fair and transparent election. And we believe that God will rescue our country from the crisis in which we find ourselves.”
Mr. John Dramani Mahama, in the company of the NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, members of the NDC council of elders, members and former members of parliament, national, regional and constituency executives, and supporters of the NDC, attended a burial mass for the late Ambassador John Akologu Tia at Tongo in the Talensi district of the UER on Saturday.
The late John Tia was a former MP for Talensi, a former Minister for Information and a former Ambassador to Cuba.
