”We didn’t implement betting tax” – Former Finance Minister

Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, former Finance Minister has openly declared that the former NPP administration led by former President Akufo-Addo and Bawumia did not implement the betting tax.

His comments comes after Ghana’s Finance Minister, Dr. Ato Forson presented the Nation’s fiscal policy for 2025 and announced the NDC’s government plans to scrap the E-levy, betting tax and others.

In a media briefing after the hearing of the budget statement in parliament today, the former Finance Minister opposed the NDC government for lies about the betting tax.

Dr. Forson emphasized that scrapping these levies was a vital step toward easing the cost of living and supporting economic recovery, a decision welcomed by football fans and bettors who had long complained that the betting tax diminished their winnings, often leaving them with little to no profit.

However, Amin Adam’s clarification challenges Forson’s narrative, insisting that the betting tax was never implemented under his tenure, casting doubt on the context of its reported abolition.

”…betting tax that they said they have abolished, we didn’t implement betting tax. So to come and tell Ghanaians that you have abolished something that was not implemented, it is to deceive the people of Ghana”, he said.
