Once more, there have been disruptions to the Walewale parliamentary primary rerun poll, which ended inconclusively after voting boxes were seized by police.

Around five o’clock in the evening, voting, which had already been postponed for several hours in the morning, came to an end. But shortly after, the ballot boxes were taken out by the police, interfering with the sorting process.

According to Mohammed Aminu Alabira, the regional correspondent for Citi News North East, this is the second time the Walewale elections have been hampered.

There were intermittent disruptions throughout the day, and there were reports that military forces attacked some voters at the polling place.

Dr. Kabiru and his team have previously expressed concerns with the location, citing a dearth of formal correspondence regarding the arrangements.

Many had expected the sorting and counting to happen in public, but it happened in a church room, behind closed doors. The electoral committee chairman claimed that an unnamed individual interfered with the proceedings. This person was subsequently taken into custody.

One of the candidates, Dr. Kabiru, voiced his displeasure with the way the election was handled and questioned the democratic process within the NPP.

Mohammed Muniru Janda, the chairman of the constituency and one of his supporters, said that Kabiru appeared to be in the lead throughout the sorting process prior to the incident.

In addition, Janda questioned the security of the votes, raising questions about the rerun’s impartiality. The NPP runs the risk of losing the constituency or neglecting to nominate a candidate, which might give the NDC an advantage in winning the seat. The atmosphere in Walewale is still heated due to the uncertainty surrounding the leadership.
