WAEC shuts down Adventist Day SHS exam centre over malpractice

Following the confiscation of multiple cell phones from applicants, the Adventist Day Senior High School examination center in Kumasi has been closed by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

At a news conference on Friday, September 5, 2025, John Kapi, WAEC’s head of public affairs, stated that the action was required to protect the integrity of the current West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

The impacted applicants have been moved to WAEC’s regional office in Kumasi, he clarified, where they would continue their examinations under more stringent supervision.

There have been at least 14 instructors, students, and invigilators detained nationally for misconduct during this year’s exams, and this incident adds to the growing number of charges filed.

The public has received assurances from WAEC that all implicated centers’ findings will be carefully examined prior to publication.
