WAEC awaits ¢118m from Education Ministry for post-WASSCE activities

To finish post-West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) activities, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has stated that it is awaiting the Ministry of Education to disburse an outstanding balance of GH¢118 million.

WAEC reports that the 2024 WASSCE for School Candidates successfully ended on September 20, 2024, after starting on August 5, 2024. Beginning on November 7, 2024, the essay and practical component marking was finished on November 29, 2024.

However, on Monday, December 9, the council disclosed in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, that a malfunction in the scanning equipment has caused the scanning of objective cards, which was initially planned to take place between November 1 and November 30, 2024, to be postponed.

According to WAEC, “The Council is waiting for the Ministry of Education to release additional funds out of the outstanding balance of GHC 118,000,000.00 for the repair of the scanners to enable the scanning process and other post-examination processes to continue smoothly.”

Since payment for their services would be given as soon as the necessary funds are released from the Ministry of Education, the council urged its beloved exam officials and suppliers to use caution.

Additionally, “The public is advised to disregard information that is making the rounds on social media that claims to be results release dates.” As soon as the difficulties encountered with the post-examination procedures are fixed, the findings will be made public.
