VIDEO: President Mahama Observes Moment of Silence for Late Former First Lady Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings During Swearing-In Ceremony

President John Dramani Mahama on Thursday observed a solemn moment of silence in honour of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, during the swearing-in ceremony of newly appointed High Court Judges in Accra.

In his brief address, President Mahama paid tribute to the late Madam Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her as “a remarkable woman whose contribution to Ghana’s democratic development and advocacy for women’s empowerment will never be forgotten.”

The event, held at the Jubilee House, paused momentarily as dignitaries, members of the judiciary, and invited guests joined in the act of remembrance for the late stateswoman.

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of Ghana’s late former President Jerry John Rawlings, reportedly passed away earlier today at the Ridge Hospital in Accra after a short illness. Her passing has drawn tributes from across the political divide, with many recalling her strong will, charisma, and lifelong dedication to the advancement of women and national development.

Beyond her role as First Lady, Nana Konadu was the founder and leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), a political organization she established after breaking away from the National Democratic Congress (NDC). She was also the founder of the 31st December Women’s Movement, through which she championed women’s rights, education, and economic empowerment across Ghana.

Her legacy as one of Ghana’s most influential female political figures remains indelible, symbolizing courage, leadership, and service to the nation.
