Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, has strongly reminded Accra’s citizens and business owners that the recently opened Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange must continue to be free of unauthorized structures, such as kiosks, wooden shops, and mechanic workshops.
Speaking at the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange’s Phase II opening on Friday, November 29, the minister emphasized that municipal administrators place a high premium on maintaining the infrastructure’s functionality and visual appeal.
The Regional Minister’s comments carried over his previous position on comparable events at the Flower Pot Interchange.
The minister’s remarks reveal a growing anxiety about Accra’s major infrastructure developments being quickly surpassed by unofficial enterprises.
Titus Glover further urged citizens to respect the government’s efforts to maintain the city’s beauty and improve its infrastructure by citing an instance in which a banana and coconut vendor decided to set up shop beneath the flyover in spite of a clear warning given during the Flower Pot Interchange’s inauguration.
“Last week Tuesday, during the commissioning of the Flower Pot Interchange, I did say and let me repeat that we don’t want any kiosks, we don’t want any mechanics around the shoulders of this interchange.
“Immediately after I gave the warning last week, a coconut seller and a banana seller tested my resolve. Let us not put anything here. Let us allow the ambience and the beauty of the place to continue.”
