UCC SRC Calls for Halt to Fresh Admissions Amid Accommodation Crisis

The Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) has petitioned the Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Students to address an escalating accommodation crisis that has left newly admitted students stranded. In their letter dated January 21, 2025, the SRC expressed concerns over university halls being filled to capacity and landlords charging exorbitant rent, creating significant challenges for students.

Following an emergency meeting on January 20, 2025, the SRC unanimously resolved to urge management to temporarily suspend fresh admissions until the issue is resolved. Key recommendations include halting admissions, collaborating with stakeholders to standardize hostel fees, expanding on-campus facilities, and enhancing the use of satellite campuses to ease congestion.

The SRC emphasized the urgency of the situation, citing its impact on students’ welfare and academic performance, and called on management to act promptly.
