Transport Minister Inaugurates New Board for Tema Shipyard and Dry-Dock Company Limited

The Minister for Transport, Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has formally inaugurated the newly constituted Board of Directors of Tema Shipyard and Drydock Company Limited at a ceremony in Accra, Addressing the gathering, Hon. Nikpe described the shipyard as a vital national asset that must be revitalised to support Ghana’s growing maritime sector. He reaffirmed government’s resolve to modernise the facility’s infrastructure and pursue viable Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to unlock its full operational potential.

The Minister charged the Board to provide visionary and strategic leadership grounded in transparency, accountability, and strong collaboration with management. He noted that the Board’s effectiveness will be crucial in repositioning Tema Shipyard and Drydock Limited as a key pillar of Ghana’s Blue Economy drive.

Hon. Nikpe, however, cautioned members to refrain from interfering, whether directly or indirectly in the day-to-day management of the company. He stressed that adherence to sound corporate governance principles requires a clear distinction between oversight responsibilities and operational control.

Clarifying the governance framework, the Minister indicated that the Board operates under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport and reports directly to it. He emphasized that the Board must not engage any higher authority without prior consultation with the Ministry.

The newly inaugurated nine-member Board comprises:

  1. George Sipa-Adjah Yankey — Chairman
  2. Alhaji Osman Sulemana — Member
  3. Millicent Wutsika — Member
  4. Mahama Adam Jandah — Member
  5. Samuel Bavug Wusah — Member
  6. Kofi A. Asmah — Member
  7. Abubakari Muaz Zemoli — Member
  8. Obed Koah Opintan — Member
  9. Albert Derrick Fiatui — Member

The new Board is expected to provide renewed strategic direction as government steps up efforts to transform Tema Shipyard and Drydock Limited into a modern, efficient hub within Ghana’s maritime industry.
