Stephen Amankona has completed a move to Egyptian Premier League side Smouha SC on a three-year deal after a sensational run in the Ghana Premier League.
The 25-year-old forward, who starred for Berekum Chelsea, finished as the league’s top scorer in both the 2023–24 and 2024–25 seasons. He netted 19 goals in the former and 15 in the latter, showcasing his consistency and sharp attacking instincts.
His spell with Chelsea also featured standout performances including a memorable hat-trick against Accra Lions and several match-winning displays that established him as one of the most lethal forwards in the league.
Amankona previously played for Asante Kotoko before returning to Chelsea, where he took on a leadership role and flourished with increased responsibility.
Over the course of his domestic career, he scored more than 60 goals in the Ghana Premier League and played over 170 matches, primarily as a right-footed winger or attacking midfielder. On the international stage, he has featured for Ghana Black Galaxies in the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) qualifiers, and his form has kept him on the radar of national selectors.
The move to Smouha marks his first professional stint outside Ghana, and he is expected to bring pace, creativity, and goals to the Egyptian side’s attack.
