TRANSFER NEWS: Former Karela United Midfielder Umar Bashiru Moves To Iraqi League Newbies Al-Mosul SC

Newly promoted Iraqi Stars League outfits, Al-Mosul Sports Club have confirmed the capture of highly-rated midfielder Umar Bashiru ahead of the 2025/26 season.

The 28-year-old Ghanaian midfielder joins Coach Jasep Sultan charges on a free transfer following the conclusion of his highly successful stint in Ethiopia, where he last played for Ethiopia Nigd Bank SA.

Bashiru has pen a year contract, with an option to extend depending on performance.

Bashiru enjoyed a fruitful three-year spell in Ethiopia, emerging as one of the standout foreign players in the country’s top tier.

He was crowned Ethiopian Premier League Player of the Year in the 2023/24 campaign, after scoring seven goals and providing nine assists that season.

Before his move to East Africa in 2022, Bashiru featured prominently in the Ghana Premier League, plying his trade for clubs such as West Africa Football Academy (WAFA), Asante Kotoko, and Karela United.

In Ethiopia, he previously joined Insurance FC, where he impressed before securing a move to Commercial Bank Ethiopia SA.

In the 2024-25 season, he featured in 25 league matches, but the club struggled to retain its title, finishing ninth in the League.
