Think long term, but act short term – Sam Jonah

Sir Sam Jonah, the former CEO of AngloGold Ashanti, has insisted that a business leader must act in the short term while thinking long term in order to succeed in the current global environment.

On Saturday, March 22, Sir Sam Jonah was a speaker at the Gold Coast University Leadership Conversation in Accra.

Speaking to students, academics, and business executives, Sir Sam Jonah pointed out that the majority of these multinational behemoths have reached this point because they have embraced this tactic, which frequently accelerates their development and expansion.

“Look at where you want to take the business in the long term, and let all your decisions and actions be guided by that, by using all the tools available to get there,” Sir Sam Jonah said.

The topic of the leadership discussion was “Pioneering Leadership: Navigating Ghana’s Economic and Business Transformation.”

Organized by the University of Gold Coast, the Gold Coast Leadership Conversation is a Premier Leadership Development Series.

Sir Jonah added that Huawei is a prime example of a company that has used this method. Other executives of multinational corporations have also investigated this approach, which has assisted in transforming their companies into household brands and international corporations.

Sir Sam Jonah further noted that effective business governance is another essential component required to thrive in the modern world.

“It has gotten a lot of businesses the needed results, when it comes to implementing it right and religiously.

“Most businesses that have tried to ignore this have struggled to sustain the business going forward,” he added.
