Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has said the launch of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Manifesto is a testament of the its rigging business towards the December 07 elections.
General Mosquito, as he is known in the political space, has noted that with just a day to the exhibition of the voter register, the Electoral Commission (EC) who manages the country’s election has not released the register to the political parties.
According to him, the EC is supposed to release the register to the parties to make copies available to its agents, so they can challenge some foreign names that may appear in the respective constituencies.
Meanwhile, the Commission has failed to do so despite the NDC’s several calls for the EC to make the register available to them.
Speaking with Captain Smart on Onua TV’s morning show, Maakye, Monday, August 19, 2024, General Mosquito noted that the actions of the EC is tantamount to rigging.
“The NPP means a rigging business. The EC has not told us the number of people they have registered since the voter registration and tomorrow we are doing exhibition. They have always told us to exercise patience. You have not given it to us so I don’t know what they want to exhibit.
“They did the ‘concert party’ yesterday to divert attention from the EC’s failure to provide us the album although they are starting the exercise tomorrow [Tuesday, August 20]. The Peace Council and the other peace stakeholders should talk to the EC to postpone the exhibition exercise until they release the register to us,” Asiedu Nketia stated.
The NDC National Chair also raised concerns about the missing biometric devices which the EC earlier denied and admitted after several pressure from the opposition.
He says the whereabouts of the devices are not known, alleging that they could be used by the EC to discreetly register people to rig the polls for the NPP.
“They told us some biometric devices got missing and they have not given us any update on it. All these are means to register people secretly into the album. So they did the manifesto launch to divert attention from the exhibition so that everyone will focus on the launch,” he stated further.
