Basake Holy Stars midfielder Francis Oteng has revealed that his stunning long-range strike against Swedru All Blacks was the result of consistent practice on the training ground.

Oteng scored the decisive goal as Basake Holy Stars secured a 1-0 victory over Swedru All Blacks in their opening game of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season at the Awulae Amihere Kpanyinli III Sports Arena in Ampain on Sunday.

The midfielder produced a moment of individual brilliance in the second half, unleashing a powerful effort from distance that proved too difficult for the visiting goalkeeper to stop.

Speaking after the game, Oteng said the spectacular finish did not come as a surprise to him, having repeatedly worked on his shooting during training.

“The goal was no surprise. I’ve been practising it,” Oteng said.

“I have been working on my shooting during training and I have scored a similar goal for Basake Holy Stars before.”

The goal ultimately settled a closely contested encounter and handed Basake Holy Stars all three points on the opening weekend.

Oteng’s contribution, however, went beyond the winning goal. He put in an impressive all-round display, showing composure in possession, energy in midfield and a constant willingness to test the All Blacks defence.

His outstanding performance earned him the Man of the Match award, capping a memorable afternoon for the midfielder.

The victory also gives Abdulai Gazale’s side the perfect start to their Premier League campaign as they look to establish themselves as a competitive force in the 2026/27 season.
