TEWU-TUC declares indefinite strike

An indefinite strike has been launched by the Teachers and Educational Workers’ Union (TEWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), with effect from Friday, September 19.

Members of public and technical institutions, the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB), and the Ghana Library Authority would all be impacted by the strike.

The union claims that the government has failed to address the long-standing complaints of non-teaching personnel despite following all established procedures, making the strike inevitable.

In a statement, TEWU-TUC said it has exercised patience and restraint over the matter, warning that any attempt to intimidate its members will amount to an unfair labour practice.

Citing ongoing delays in finalizing and signing conditions of service agreements, the union noted that it had officially issued notice of the strike on September 8.

The statement, which was signed by General Secretary King James Azortibah, emphasized that members are upset because several follow-ups and discussions with management and pertinent authorities have produced no results.
