Tell your boss to sign Anti-LGBTQ+bill – Ho West MP tells Bawumia

Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, the member of parliament for Ho West, has challenged Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the leader of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to demonstrate his dedication to preserving Ghanaian culture by compelling President Akufo-Addo to sign the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values (Anti-LGBTQ+) Bill.

In reaction, he made his remarks after Dr. Bawumia promised, should he be elected president, to defend Ghanaian culture and family values.

Bedzrah contended that Dr. Bawumia’s promise to uphold Ghanaian culture upon election, while he may now confer with President Akufo-Addo to sign the bill, does not sit well because the latter is currently the nation’s vice president and has a role in how the economy is managed.

“If he is man enough to rule this country, he should be able to tell his boss that ‘look my boss, this is our culture value, please sign this bill,'” he stated on August 19 on Joy FM’s Top Story.

He maintained that the nation only needs laws to stop people from misusing Ghanaian principles, not someone to defend the country’s traditional values.

The politician contended that a manifesto pledge of protection is superseded by passing the legislation.

Mr. Bedzrah emphasized that rather than hiding behind words, he would counsel the president to sign the family values bill if Dr. Bawumia wished to uphold these principles.

“This thing of hiding behind words that is being done now it is like he running away from all the acts that the president has done and coming out to say that when I become a president, I will do this and that.

“It doesn’t work there. I mean, he can not run away from any act that has been committed by the current regime,” he said.
