Teacher licensure exams to be scrapped, integrated into final exams – Mahama

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has reiterated his commitment to do away with teacher licensure tests and include them in teacher trainees’ final year exams.

During the NDC manifesto launch in Winneba, Mahama revealed his intentions to transform teacher accommodations and welfare.

Mahama pledged to implement the “Teacher Dabre” project, which calls for housing for educators in all newly constructed government-run schools.

He noted that no new classroom block will be constructed without accompanying teacher accommodation.

Furthermore, the NDC administration plans to give priority to housing teachers in current schools that do not have these amenities.

“We’ll abolish teacher licensure exams and integrate it into the licensing process into their final year exams. We’ll institute the teacher ‘dabre’ project and what this means is that any new school we are building must be accompanied by accommodation for teachers.”

“We are not going to build classroom blocks any more without teacher accommodation. Every new classroom block must have teacher accommodation, and we’ll also accelerate providing accommodation by the existing schools that do not have them, and that will be the teacher ‘dabre’, which means where a teacher will sleep programme.”
