Suame MP John Darko Granted Enquiry Bail in GH¢27m SIC Savings and Loans Probe

The Member of Parliament for Suame, John Darko, has been granted enquiry bail by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) following his appearance before investigators probing an alleged criminal conspiracy linked to financial losses estimated at GH¢27 million at SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.

Mr Darko reported to EOCO at precisely 12:00 noon on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, after being invited to assist with inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the alleged financial loss.

In a statement released on Tuesday, EOCO disclosed that the investigation concerns an alleged criminal conspiracy that has resulted in a revised estimated loss of approximately GH¢27 million to the financial institution.

According to the Office, the Suame legislator exhibited a cooperative disposition throughout his engagement with investigators, demonstrating respect and responsiveness during the investigative process.

“Given the circumstances of the case, the applicable law, and his cooperation, the Office granted him enquiry bail,” EOCO stated.

The development represents a fresh turn in the unfolding investigation, which seeks to establish the circumstances underpinning the alleged financial loss and ascertain whether any criminal liability can be substantiated.

Former Managing Director Also Cooperating With EOCO

EOCO further disclosed that Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, the former Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans, has honoured an invitation from the Office and is cooperating with investigators.

Her engagement with the investigative body forms part of the broader inquiry into the alleged financial impropriety, as investigators seek to reconstruct the sequence of events that culminated in the reported loss.

The Office maintained that the investigation was progressing steadily in accordance with its established case theory.

EOCO Urges Caution as Investigation Continues

Despite the latest developments, EOCO has emphasised that its investigations remain active and that no definitive determination has been made regarding the culpability or otherwise of any individual connected to the matter.

The clarification reinforces the need for circumspection as investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the alleged loss.

While the grant of enquiry bail permits Mr Darko to remain out of custody under the applicable arrangements, it does not constitute an exoneration or a determination of guilt.

Similarly, the fact that other individuals are cooperating with investigators does not, in itself, establish wrongdoing on their part.

The alleged GH¢27 million loss at SIC Life Savings and Loans is expected to sustain public interest, particularly given the scale of the amount involved and the prominence of individuals associated with the investigation.

Currently, the inquiry remains ongoing, with the ultimate determination of culpability dependent on the evidence established through the investigative process and any subsequent legal proceedings.
