Stephen Abugri takes the reins at Ebiemo FC ahead of Division One League campaign

Newly promoted Division One League outfit Ebiemo FC have appointed seasoned Ghanaian tactician Stephen Abugri as their head coach ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Nzema-based club have entrusted the experienced trainer with the responsibility of spearheading their maiden campaign in Ghana’s second tier, following a promotion-winning season that has elevated the club onto the national football landscape.

Abugri has wasted no time settling into his new role, taking charge of training on Monday as Ebiemo officially stepped up preparations for the demanding season ahead.

The appointment represents another noteworthy chapter in a coaching career that has spanned 17 clubs, underscoring Abugri’s extensive experience and enduring presence within Ghana’s domestic football ecosystem.

He joins Ebiemo after recent coaching assignments with Yapei United FC and TF Exponential Football Club in the Division One League Zone One A, where he gained further exposure to the tactical and competitive demands of the second tier.

Abugri also possesses an intimate knowledge of football in the Nzema corridor, having previously occupied the technical dugout of several clubs in the region, including Karela United, Jomoro United (Proud United) and Basake Holy Stars.

His familiarity with the footballing terrain, combined with his accumulated experience across different clubs, makes his appointment a calculated move by Ebiemo as they prepare to confront the heightened intensity of Division One football.

The newly promoted side will be entering unfamiliar territory, with the Division One League presenting a substantially sterner test than the competition they navigated on their route to promotion.

Abugri’s immediate mandate will therefore be to mould a cohesive and competitive unit, identify the squad’s strengths and deficiencies, and instil a tactical identity capable of withstanding the rigours of a lengthy league campaign.

Beyond results, the experienced coach will be expected to harness the club’s growing momentum and transform their promotion into a sustainable foundation for success at the national level.

For Ebiemo FC, the appointment represents a statement of intent. For Abugri, it offers another opportunity to enrich an already expansive coaching résumé while guiding a club eager to announce its arrival on the Division One stage.

With preparations now firmly underway in Nzema, attention will shift to Ebiemo’s recruitment strategy and pre-season programme as the club prepares its squad for what promises to be a demanding but historic 2026/27 campaign.
