The Members of Parliament for Akwatia and Tamale Central, Professor Alidu Seidu and Bernard Bediako Baidoo, are scheduled to be sworn in today by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Bagbin.
After the death of Ernest Yaw Kumi, Bernard Bediako Baidoo won the by-election in Akwatia with 18,199 votes. In Tamale Central, Professor Alidu Seidu emerged as the only contender and was proclaimed the victor of the by-election. He was the successor to the late Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, who died in a helicopter crash on August 6, 2025.
The two newly elected lawmakers, both representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC), are expected to take the oath of office during today’s parliamentary sitting.
