The Director of Communications for the United Party (UP), Solomon Owusu, has alleged that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is projecting a united front over the legal challenges facing its Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, while concealing deep-seated divisions within its ranks.

According to Owusu, the public statements of support from senior NPP figures are primarily intended to reassure party supporters and prevent disaffection among the grassroots, rather than reflect genuine unity within the party.

Speaking on the matter, he claimed that although the NPP leadership has consistently defended Chairman Wontumi publicly, some members of the party are privately pleased with his current predicament.

Owusu argued that the party’s public posture is a calculated strategy to maintain confidence among its supporters, particularly in the Ashanti Region, where Chairman Wontumi wields significant political influence.

He further alleged that Wontumi’s situation has exposed underlying cracks within the NPP, with some members viewing the development as an opportunity to reshape the party’s internal political landscape ahead of future contests.

“The support being expressed publicly is meant to calm party supporters. Internally, not everyone is unhappy about what Chairman Wontumi is going through,” Owusu alleged.

His remarks come as Chairman Wontumi’s legal challenges continue to attract widespread public attention and fuel political debate across the country.
