With the National Democratic Congress (NDC) defeating the New Patriotic Party (NPP) handily in both the presidential and parliamentary contests, the results of the most recent elections demonstrated a significant shift in Ghana’s political landscape.
Parliamentary Candidates running on the NDC banner ousted a number of long-serving and well-known NPP MPs. With 32 female MPs out of the total number of seats gained, the NDC secured more than half of the parliamentary seats.
Compared to the present Parliament, which has 40 female MPs (20 from the NPP and 20 from the NDC), this indicates that there are more female MPs on the NDC side.
The 32 seats won by the NDC include renowned personalities like Joan Gyan of Amenfi Central, Ebi Bright of Tema Central, and Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings of Korle Klottey.
