After years of administrative setbacks, repeated postponements, and mounting public concern, relief is finally on the horizon for residents of Sanzule and Bakanta as the long-awaited road project is now set to commence.
The 3.2-kilometre single carriageway forms part of ENI Ghana’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments to communities within its operational enclave. Upon completion, the road is expected to markedly enhance connectivity, boost local commerce, and alleviate the persistent transportation challenges confronting residents.

Renewed momentum for the project follows sustained intervention and strategic lobbying by the Member of Parliament for Ellembelle Constituency and Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah. His efforts have been strongly complemented by the District Chief Executive for Ellembelle, Hon. Joseph Kwasi Armah Agyekum, whose district-level coordination has proven pivotal in unlocking the project.
Speaking during an engagement with the chiefs and people of Sanzule and Bakanta on Friday, 27th February 2026, Hon. Joseph Agyekum assured the communities that concrete measures have been implemented to eliminate the bottlenecks that previously stalled the initiative.

He disclosed that a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been executed between ENI Ghana, the Ellembelle District Assembly, and the beneficiary communities. According to him, the agreement establishes a clear implementation framework and a robust dispute-resolution mechanism to ensure the smooth and timely delivery of the project.
Hon. Agyekum further reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to rigorous monitoring and close collaboration with ENI Ghana to guarantee that construction begins without further undue delay.
For years, the Sanzule–Bakanta stretch has remained a major source of concern for commuters and traders, particularly during the rainy season when sections of the road become nearly impassable. The project is therefore widely regarded as a critical and timely intervention for the area.
