Sad News: Content creator dies trying to climb Spain’s highest bridge

A British guy, 26, lost his life after he fell from Spain’s largest bridge while attempting climb one of its pylons.

The town council said in a statement released on Sunday that the guy had fallen from the Castilla-La Mancha bridge, which spans the River Tagus outside Talavera de la Reina in central Spain.

Macarena Muñoz, the local councilman, reported that he was accompanied by a 24-year-old British male.

“According to what we have been able to find out they had come to Talavera to climb the bridge and create content for social media,” Muñoz said in the statement.

She noted that climbing the bridge is “completely forbidden and we have reiterated multiple times that it is not allowed under any circumstances,” adding that she was saddened by the incident.

According to the statement, the man’s body has been transferred to a funeral parlour; local authorities have not disclosed his identity.

Completed in 2010, the cable-stayed bridge has a main span of 318 meters (1,043 feet) and a height of 180 meters (591 feet).

In recent years, the British guy is by no means the first person to lose their life while pursuing social media content.

According to CNN affiliate Nine News, a woman in Australia died after falling down a cliff while posing for a picture at Boroka Lookout, an overhang at the edge of a cliff in Grampians National Park, Victoria state, in December 2020.

Additionally, a French traveler lost their life in November 2019 after falling from a Thai waterfall while trying to take a photo.

According to the AFP news agency, the 33-year-old guy passed away after slipping and falling from the Na Mueang 2 waterfall on the Thai island of Koh Samui. This is the same location where a Spanish tourist perished in a fall in July of the same year.
