“Sack all NEDCo/VRA workers if they don’t know their job” – Chiraahene fumes over dumsor
The Chief of Chiraa in the Sunyani West Municipal of the Bono Region, Barima Mintah Afari II, has expressed his displeasure over intermittent power supply kwon as “dumsor.”
Barima Mintah Afari called for a head roll at NEDCo in the Bono region if their responsibilities have become difficult to execute, contributing to dumsor.
The Chiraahene believes some VRA/NEDCo workers may compromise the system to sabotage the NDC government by portraying it as a “dumsor” government, adding that some workers may engage in politics to tarnish the government’s image.
The Chief revealed that he is under intense pressure from residents of Chiraa following the recent instability in power supply.
According to him, his residents have raised persistent concerns over the unstable power supply, which continues to disrupt both commercial and domestic activities.
He lamented that he had been inundated with calls from residents urging him to intervene and help resolve the power crisis even though he’s a traditional leader.
Barima Mintah Afari made these remarks when the MP for Sunyani West paid a courtesy call on him at his palace in Chiraa on Easter Monday to officially introduce the Sunyani West MCE and the newly elected presiding Member to the Chiraa Traditional Council.
The Chiraahene, Barima Mintah Afari II, in his advice to the political leaders, urged the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West Constituency and the Municipal Chief Executive to ensure fair allocation of projects for all constituents to benefit.
He noted that despite the many geological and traditional areas that fall within the municipality, it’s appropriate for political leaders to shun bias towards sharing development.
According to Chiraahene, every community deserves equal opportunity and development without being selective based on their place of birth or lineage.
However, Chiraahene’s call for fairness seems to contrast with his later request, urging the MP and MCE to provide more projects to his area to improve the standard of living.
Nana Mintah Afari also urged the leaders for collaboration and respect for traditional authorities in a quest to develop Sunyani West.
Additionally, Barima Mintah Afari charged the assembly to relocate unauthorized container erections in Chiraa, pledging to provide land to evacuate all containers to the proposed area, stating that this evacuation will help provide a decent community plan.
