Hearts of Oak have reached an agreement with former Black Stars goalkeeper Richard Kingston to become the club’s new goalkeepers coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The 48-year-old has finalized all contractual arrangements with the Phobians and is expected to officially join the technical team as preparations for the new Ghana Premier League campaign gather pace.

Kingston returns to club football with a wealth of experience, having enjoyed a distinguished playing career for both club and country. He represented Accra Great Olympics before securing moves abroad, where he featured for Turkish giants Galatasaray as well as English sides Birmingham City and Blackpool.

On the international stage, Kingston earned widespread recognition as Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper during the Black Stars’ maiden FIFA World Cup appearance in Germany in 2006. Four years later, he was instrumental in Ghana’s remarkable run to the quarter-finals of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, a feat that remains the country’s best performance at the tournament.

After hanging up his gloves, Kingston transitioned into coaching and previously served as Great Olympics and the Black Stars’ goalkeepers coach, working with several of Ghana’s top shot-stoppers at the international level.

His appointment is expected to bolster Hearts of Oak’s technical department as the club seeks to mount a strong challenge in the upcoming season.
