Respect The Journey, No Matter The Salary- Kobi-Mensah

Gor Mahia FC assistant coach, Bismark Kobi-Mensah has advised young footballers in the Western Region (Sekondi-Takoradi) to take their careers seriously regardless of the financial challenges they face.

Speaking on Skyy Power 93.5 FM and WestGold Radio, he noted that many players tend to lose focus when they are not well paid. He stressed that if players were earning huge sums, like $20,000 a month, they would be more committed to improving themselves, but smaller wages should not be an excuse for a lack of dedication.

Kobi-Mensah urged local players to see every opportunity, even at smaller clubs, as a stepping stone to bigger chances. According to him, seriousness and professionalism must remain consistent, no matter the size of the paycheck.

He also explained that footballers who treat their work with respect from the beginning are the ones who eventually rise to higher levels of the game.

The Ghanaian coach recently joined Nairobi-based side Gor Mahia FC as an assistant to Charles Kwablan Akonnor, bringing his experience from clubs like Nzema Kotoko,Bechem United, FC Samartex 1996, Karela United and Great Olympics.

His career has been shaped by working with players in resource-constrained environments, so his advice comes from firsthand knowledge.

Gor Mahia itself is known for building strong discipline and ambition, values that Mensah says should guide young footballers as they pursue their dreams.

In simple terms, his message is clear: don’t let low salaries kill your commitment. Stay disciplined, use the little opportunities you have, and build the right attitude. Seriousness at the grassroots level is the key that opens the door to bigger stages in football.
