Report on August 6 Helicopter crash submitted to President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has received the investigative committee’s final report on the devastating military helicopter crash that happened on August 6, 2025.

The group is led by Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Acting Minister for Defense. The presentation was given on Monday, November 10, during a National Security Council meeting held at the Jubilee House in Accra.

The committee, which was constituted shortly after the crash, was tasked with establishing the cause of the incident and recommending measures to prevent future occurrences.

Technical, operational, and environmental aspects that may have contributed to the deadly accident are reportedly covered in length in the report.

According to government sources, the results will be presented to the public at an official press event on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, at which important suggestions and future actions are anticipated to be discussed.

A Ghana Air Force-operated Harbin Z-9EH military helicopter (tail number GHF 631) was involved in the collision. The plane lost radar contact and crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District at approximately 9:12 a.m. while traveling from Accra to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region on an anti-illegal mining mission.

Tragically, all eight passengers and crew on board lost their lives. The victims included: Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Samuel Sarpong, NDC Vice-Chair, Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate, Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah.

The investigation, chaired by National Security Coordinator Abdul-Osman Razak, was conducted in collaboration with the Ghana Air Force, the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), and international aviation experts.
