Transportation stations and branches have been warned by the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) not to disregard the recently approved 15% fare cut, stressing that noncompliance will result in penalties.
Godfred Abulbire, the general secretary of GPRTU, said that several Ashanti Region operators have delayed fare adjustments due to delayed communication. He did, however, guarantee that steps have been taken to guarantee complete compliance.
“The chairman has forwarded another press release and made it known that by tomorrow, if stations or branches working under us don’t comply with the directives, sanctions will be meted out to those terminals,” Abulbire stated on the Channel One Newsroom on Saturday May 24.
He added that stopping noncompliant drivers from loading passengers would be one of the most effective sanctions.
Taking him into custody or preventing him from loading is a specific form of punishment that drivers dislike. That’s what we believe we should do,” he continued.
Authorities anticipated that transport operators would adapt to the falling gasoline prices, which prompted the introduction of the fare reduction directive.
Due to operational costs, some have opposed the new pricing system, while others have complied.
