Samuel Nartey George, Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, has reiterated the government’s pledge to uphold broadcasting laws fearlessly and equitably.
This comes after President John Dramani Mahama issued a clemency order requesting that 64 radio stations that had their licenses revoked by the National Communications Authority (NCA) for violating regulations have them reinstated.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Thursday, June 12, the Minister made it very plain that no radio station will be free from Ghana’s broadcasting regulations, regardless of its ownership, political affiliation, or social position.
“Let me reassure this House and the people of Ghana: this Government is committed to the firm, fair, and impartial enforcement of the laws governing FM broadcasting,” he said. “No entity, regardless of status or political affiliation, is above the law. Our goal is not punishment but accountability, order, and the responsible stewardship of a critical public resource.”
