President Mahama orders suspension of GAF recruitment exercise after El-Wak stampede

Following a stampede at the El-Wak Sports Stadium that resulted in six fatalities, President John Mahama has ordered the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise to be immediately suspended.

The terrible event happened on Wednesday morning and harmed a number of additional people. On Wednesday, November 12, the President visited some of the casualties at the 37 Military Hospital before making the announcement at the Nkoko Nkitinkiti Poultry Initiative launch in Kumasi.

Describing the incident as a heartbreaking loss for the nation, Mahama extended condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

He also called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the stampede, stressing the need to strengthen safety measures during public recruitment exercises and other national events.
