President Mahama has contributed six months of his salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, widely known as Mahama Cares. President Mahama started the Mahama Cares campaign at the University of Ghana
Medical Centre (UGMC) in Accra on Tuesday, April 29. After the launch of the programme, Minister of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, posted on his Facebook page that ” President Mahama donates six months of his salary to the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Cares).”
According to the 2020 report on emoluments for holders of Article 71 offices by Prof. Yaa Ntiamoah Baidu, the President receives GHC47,277.00 in salary. If you multiply this sum by six, you will see that President Mahama has given the Fund GHC330,939.00.
In his opening remarks for the Fund, President John Dramani Mahama urged the commercial sector to dedicate their corporate social responsibility to Mahama Cares.
“I want to encourage corporate Ghana, businesses, the mines, the banks, and all the other companies, that this Ghana Medical Trust Fund, is coming to your clients who save their monies in your banks or do business with you. Some of them are even your own staff.
“So, as part of your Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), if you give anything, consider that you are giving to your own staff or customers.
“So, I would like to encourage all corporations in Ghana, both private and public, to at the end of the year, donate some portion of their annual CSR to Ghana Medical Fund because it is going to do a lot of good to the country,” he stated.
