President John Dramani Mahama has cut the sod for the redevelopment of the 73.6km Cape Coast–Takoradi Road, under the government’s Big Push Initiative.
The project, expected to be completed in two years, will upgrade the road into a dual carriageway with nine interchanges, ten bridges, fifteen footbridges and underpasses, 20km of service roads, a rest stop, and an axle-weigh station.
President Mahama said the project will cut travel time by up to 40%, improve road safety, and create over 8,000 jobs, including 2,000 direct and 6,000 indirect opportunities. He added that it will enhance access to Takoradi Port, boost trade, tourism, and logistics, and drive regional economic growth.

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwame Agbodza, assured that contractors under the Big Push Initiative are “well-prepared to deliver the best roads ever witnessed in our country.”
