President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana.
The appointment, made in accordance with Section 17 of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612) as amended, marks a significant development in the nation’s financial leadership.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu, a Chartered Banker, brings to the role a wealth of experience in corporate banking. She has served as Group Head of Retail Banking at Access Bank Ghana PLC, where she demonstrated exemplary leadership in driving retail banking innovations and expanding financial inclusion.
Her academic background reflects her diverse professional competencies. She holds an MBA in Marketing from GIMPA Business School (2021), an MA in Journalism Studies from Cardiff University (2005), and diplomas in Journalism from the Ghana Institute of Journalism (1997) and in Politics and Public Affairs Reporting from the International Institute of Journalism in Berlin (2000).
In 2024, she became a Chartered Executive Banker from CIB-Ghana. Further complementing her academic credentials, Mrs. Asante-Asiedu has undertaken executive programmes at some of the world’s leading institutions, including the Said Business School at Oxford University (2023), the Wharton School (2015), and the Les Aspin Centre at Marquette University (2003).
The appointment has been confirmed by Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, in a statement issued by the Ministry of Government Communications.
Mrs. Asante-Asiedu’s appointment is expected to bolster the leadership of the Bank of Ghana as it continues to navigate complex monetary and financial challenges in the country. Her diverse background in banking, journalism, and public affairs positions her uniquely to contribute to effective policy-making and institutional growth.
Her role as Second Deputy Governor will be crucial in supporting the central bank’s mandate of maintaining monetary stability and promoting financial sector development.
