President Akufo-Addo Appoints New Chief of Defense Staff.

The President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has appointed Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, the Chief of Army Staff as the new Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).

His appointment according to a communique by the Director of Communication at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, takes effect from February 1,2024. This is pending consultation with the yet-to-be-constituted Council of State.

As the current CDS prepares to leave office, a new Chief of Defense Staff has been appointed to take over from his post. Major General Bismarck Kwasi Onwona is the appointed CDS.

Major Oppong-Peprah succeeds Rear Admiral Seth Amoama who is due for retirement.

“This appointment has been made following the completion of the tour of duty and subsequent retirement from the Ghana Armed Forces, on 1st February 2024, of the current Chief of Defense Staff, Rear Admiral Seth Amoama,” the statement said.

Mr. Eugene Arhin in the statement on behalf of the President “Expressed his gratitude to him for his dedicated and meritorious service to Ghana Armed Forces and to the nation.”
