The Ashanti Regional Police Command has begun investigations into the death of a 20-year-old Senegalese national, identified as Cheikh Toure, under what police describe as unnatural circumstances in Kumasi.
A statement issued by the Public Affairs Unit of the Command and signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Godwin Ahianyo confirmed that the deceased’s body has been deposited at the Ebenezer Mortuary at Tafo for preservation and further investigation.
According to the police, initial enquiries revealed that the deceased was brought to the mortuary by a man identified as Issah, who claimed to be Toure’s brother.
Further investigations at the Manhyia Government Hospital established that on October 16, 2025, the same Issah brought the young man to the hospital in a critical condition, allegedly after an accident. However, hospital authorities confirmed that the victim was already dead upon arrival and had sustained severe abdominal injuries.
The police have assured the public that every effort is being made to thoroughly investigate the case and determine the true cause of death.
“Every effort is being made to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding Mr. Toure’s death,” DSP Ahianyo stated in the release.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command has appealed to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation.
