The Ashanti North Regional Police Command has arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of Eric Obeng Darko, the former headmaster of Dampong Senior High School.
The suspects — Mubarak Mohammed, 38, and Prophetess Elizabeth Darkwah, 48 — were arrested on June 9 and June 17, 2025, respectively. They have been arraigned before district courts in Kodie and Suame. According to police, the two are believed to have played key roles in a scheme that ended in the tragic death of Mr. Darko.
Preliminary investigations reveal that in 2024, Prophetess Darkwah allegedly collected an undisclosed sum of money from the deceased under the pretense of unearthing ancient family gold. As part of the arrangement, she and Mubarak Mohammed reportedly visited Mr. Darko’s residence at Bampenase near Mamponteng, where they unearthed approximately 20 pieces of a yellowish substance, which she claimed was gold requiring purification at her church before it could be used or sold.
Despite the deceased’s persistent efforts, Prophetess Darkwah allegedly evaded all attempts to schedule the purification ritual. Investigators say she later conspired with Mubarak Mohammed and three other suspects — who remain at large — to abduct and kill Mr. Darko before he could uncover the truth.
The former headmaster was reportedly captured and taken to Aboabugya. When he attempted to flee, he was allegedly run over by a Honda Odyssey vehicle driven by Mubarak Mohammed, resulting in his death.
The two accused individuals are currently in police custody and are scheduled to reappear in court on July 4, 2025. Meanwhile, police say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the case.
The arrest was confirmed in a press statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police Emmanuel Agbodzi, who serves as the Acting Regional Public Affairs Director for Ashanti North.
