Parliament has been recalled from its current recess to resume sitting on Monday, August 24, 2026, to consider urgent parliamentary business.

A notice issued by the Office of the Speaker of Parliament and signed by Speaker Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin indicates that the House will sit from Monday, August 24 to Friday, August 28, 2026.

The recall takes effect at 12:00 noon on Monday, August 24, at Parliament House in Accra.

According to the notice, the Speaker exercised the authority conferred on him under Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana to recall the House despite the ongoing recess.

The official communication, dated August 12, 2026, states that Parliament is being recalled specifically to deliberate on urgent parliamentary business.

“Parliament shall, notwithstanding anything to the contrary, be recalled from recess to sit on Monday, at 12 noon of the 24th to Friday the 28th day of August, 2026, at Parliament House, Accra, to consider urgent parliamentary business,” the notice stated.

The directive means Members of Parliament are expected to return to the Chamber for the five-day sitting, although the Speaker’s notice does not disclose the specific matters that necessitated the recall.

The development is likely to generate considerable interest as the House prepares to take up the urgent matters for which the recall has been authorised.
