PAC refers Ghana School of Law management to AG for prosecution

Alleged procurement breaches have led to the Attorney General (AG) referring the management of the Ghana School of Law (GLS) for prosecution.

The Law School purchased a number of products and services without getting the required board clearance, according to the Auditor General’s report.

The institution was also charged with evading the procurement procedure known as sole sourcing.

The Public Accounts Committee noticed these infractions and has referred the matter to the Attorney General for further action.

Member of Parliament for Tano North, Freda Prempeh, stated during the Public Accounts Committee meeting on Wednesday, August 14, “The Auditors noticed that payments for the procurement of various goods and services, they did not obtain approval from the board, nor did they go through the three different sources.”

Yusuf Osman, the General Legal Council’s acting chief accountant, acknowledged that the Ghana Law School had violated the procurement procedure.

“The suppliers were registered suppliers of Ghana School of Law, we had regularly engaged them in a number of transactions, at which point we complied with all the relevant procedures. Except in this instance, those additional invoices at the time of auditing were not attached to those transactions… We admit,” he said.

James Klutse Avedzi, Chairman of PAC stated that the management of the Law school will be recommended for prosecution.

“You are at fault, you have flouted the law, you have admitted and so, we will recommend you for prosecution.”
