Oppong Nkrumah: 2025 budget must deliver real benefits to Ghanaians

Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the MP for Ofoase/Ayirebi, has reiterated the Minority’s resolve to carefully examine the 2025 budget to make sure Ghanaians receive the most benefits possible.

He asserts that in order to ensure the efficacy and sustainability of the government’s commitments, initiatives, and associated funds, Parliament’s main duty is to evaluate them critically.

His comments precede Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson’s much awaited budget statement on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

The former Information Minister stressed in a news release that the Minority will hold the government responsible and make sure that Ghanaians’ promises are kept.

“Our job as Parliament is to examine the commitments/programs and to examine the budgets for each of them. Our job is to assess, make recommendations, and, in the end, approve the policy and the budget,” he stated.

“We will bring to bear the knowledge we’ve acquired in government, the lessons from what went right and wrong in our era, and the feedback from our constituents in our assessment and approvals.”

In addition, Oppong Nkrumah emphasized that tackling national issues required a shift from political rhetoric to effective governance.

“It’s good that finally the propaganda is going to give way to governance programs that can respond to the outstanding challenges our people face. We in the minority will do our part to help these programs succeed for the people of Ghana,” he added.

The Minority’s promise to carry out a comprehensive assessment paves the way for fierce parliamentary discussion and accountability as the country awaits the 2025 budget.
