President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has praised the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange’s successful completion, pointing to it as a major accomplishment of his administration’s efforts to modernize infrastructure and advance Ghana’s development.
The President stated during the Friday, November 29, 2024, inaugural event that the project is a vital step in resolving Accra’s ongoing traffic jams and promoting economic development.
He emphasized how the interchange improves urban mobility and makes it easier to travel efficiently along one of the busiest routes in the capital city.
President Akufo-Addo emphasized that such projects are in line with a larger goal to update infrastructure across the country and referred to the interchange as a pillar of his government’s transformative program. He cited current and upcoming initiatives nationwide to enhance urban development and transportation systems.
In order to guarantee that the infrastructure’s advantages continue for a long time and assist sustainable urban development, the president further urged residents to support its upkeep and preservation.
“I am very happy to be here this afternoon to commission Phase II of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange. This remarkable project is further evidence of my government’s strong commitment to transformative development. Development that enhances mobility and economic growth and improves the quality of life for all Ghanaians.
“With the inception of this project, my vision is clear to confront the persistent traffic congestion which has long impeded movement and economic activity in this crucial area of Accra.”
In order to make the project a reality, President Akufo-Addo also praised the cooperation of numerous stakeholders, including local residents, contractors, and government organizations.
Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus Glover, the Greater Accra Regional Minister, took use of the opportunity to strongly caution against any unauthorized activity at the interchange.
He reaffirmed that the construction of kiosks, mechanic shops, or any other unauthorized constructions in the area would not be permitted by the city’s officials, since this could compromise the project’s aesthetic appeal and usefulness.
