Obeng Junior Laments as Gold Stars End Heart of Lions’ Unbeaten Run

Heart of Lions’ impressive unbeaten streak in the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League came to an end on Monday afternoon following a 3-1 defeat to Bibiani Gold Stars at the Duns Park.

The electric home crowd spurred the Miners to one of their best performances of the season, as they handed the ambitious Lions their first loss in six matches.

Kotey Amon Richard opened the scoring in the 37th minute with a composed finish after a brilliant attacking move by Samuel Atta Kumi that caught the Lions’ defence off guard.

After the break, coach Nana Yaw Amankwah’s tactical adjustments paid off perfectly. Substitute Sampson Eduku, who replaced Razack Sanou in the 53rd minute, made an instant impact by scoring a deflected effort just a minute later to double the advantage.

Heart of Lions found a lifeline in the 59th minute when Kodjo Obeng Junior calmly slotted home to reduce the deficit and spark hopes of a comeback.

However, Bibiani Gold Stars sealed the victory late on when Samuel Atta Kumi converted from the penalty spot in the 83rd minute to make it 3-1.

A disappointed Obeng Junior expressed his frustration after the match, describing the defeat as a painful one for the entire team.

The victory lifts Bibiani Gold Stars further up the Premier League table as they bounce back from their 3-0 defeat to Vision FC, while Heart of Lions will aim to regroup and return to winning ways in their next fixture to stay within reach of the top spots.
