Professor Ransford Gyampo, the chief executive officer of Ghana’s Shippers Authority, has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), claiming that until they change their leadership and mindset, they are not worthy of ruling even a small village.
The political science professor stated on Saturday, May 31, 2025, on TV3’s The Key Points show that if the NPP wants to be taken seriously by Ghanaians once more, they must “repent” and install a new leadership.
“The NPP has been arrogant and incompetent, especially in their handling of illegal mining and power cuts,” he said. “If they don’t repent or come up with a new crop of leaders, they don’t fit to govern even a village.”
Following the NPP’s loss to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2024 general elections, where the party lost both the presidential and legislative races, Prof. Gyampo issued these remarks.
Since assuming power, the NDC government led by President John Mahama has implemented policies aimed at stabilizing the economy and combating illegal small-scale mining, or galamsey as it is known locally.
The remarks made by Prof. Gyampo contribute to the expanding public discourse over the NPP’s future course and the leadership changes that many people think are required for the party to resurrect.
