The 2024 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will unveil his running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh in Kumasi later today.
His unveiling will be preceded by an official introduction of the running mate to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II and the Asanteman Council.
The former Education Minister was selected as the official partner of the 2024 flagbearer after his nomination was approved by the National Council of the party during a meeting at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
In a statement, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh expressed his sincere appreciation to Dr. Bawumia for assigning him the role of running mate. In order to secure a decisive win for the party in the next elections, NAPO vowed to work tirelessly in tandem with Dr. Bawumia.
Since Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh was promoted to the position of running mate for the party, the New Patriotic Party has also formally opened nominations for the Manhyia South.
The Manhyia South Parliamentary seat is now vacant as a result, although Parliament has not yet made an official announcement.
The party emphasised that this is an internal matter and advised potential candidates to be careful with their words. It also promised a free and fair electoral process.
According to reports, Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, NAPO’s brother, is running for the same parliamentary seat, which could lead to a family rivalry in politics.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) ticket, which consists of Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang and former President John Dramani Mahama, will compete against the New Patriotic Party’s Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) in a hotly contested presidential election in 2024.
