No Ghana card, no national service – NSA Director-General

Felix Gyamfi, the Director General of the National Service Authority (NSA), has declared that incoming graduates will not be permitted to register for national service if they do not possess a valid Ghana Card.

He clarified that this action is a component of the Authority’s endeavor to remove ghost identities from its payroll. “You will not be allowed into our system if you do not have a valid Ghana card ID,” Mr. Gyamfi said during a news conference on Thursday, February 13, 2025.

“If you are a prospective graduate and you do not have a valid Ghana Card to register, you will not be allowed to do national service. So, these are some of the pathways to take away the ghost names.”

He charged that the previous administration had neglected to put in place the appropriate safeguards and guidelines intended to remove phantom names from the National Service Authority’s (NSA) payroll.

“This was a leadership problem. This was a situation where the checks that were put in place to save the taxpayers money was supposed to have kicked in and it didn’t kick in.”

The Minister for Finance recently conducted a headcount of active National Service members in order to pay off unpaid allowance arrears from August 2024. The results showed that there were more than 81,885 suspected ghost identities on the NSA payroll.
