NGO appeals to government to speedup MMDCEs selection process

In order to guarantee local development, Dr. Clement Clinton Blay, the CEO of the non-governmental organization SHAIP Africa, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to speed up the selection of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

He also suggested that MMDCES, who have not yet been given a name, move quickly to expedite the development of their regions.

He did add: “Despite the level of speed, they must not be oblivious of the fact that there are potential rots that need to be investigated and dealt with in a timely manner.”

He was interviewed by the Ghana News Agency in Esiama, which is located in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region.

President Mahama revoked the appointments of MMDCEs in the erstwhile New Patriotic Party government a day after he was sworn into office.

Prospective MMDCEs have been screened and vetted for the role ever since.

Although the President had instructed all Coordinating Directors at the Assemblies to serve as MMDCEs, Dr. Blay pointed out that their power was constrained because they lacked the same authority as the MMDCES.

He stated: “The MMDCEs as implementers of the decentralization process, play a crucial role especially with our system of governance” .

For faster expansion, he therefore encouraged the government to expedite procedures and designate significant MMDCEs.
