John Dramani Mahama, a former president and National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, has reaffirmed his dedication to reclaiming Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s proper place in Ghanaian history.
John Dramani Mahama, the Special Guest at the “Journey to Nkroful Nkrumah Fest 2024,” underlined the need of honouring Nkrumah’s legacy and eradicating historical errors in Ghana.
On September 21, 1909, at Nkroful, in the Western Region, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the first president of Ghana, was born. This day is celebrated as The Journey to Nkroful Nkrumah Fest Memorial Day.
The 2024 edition themed “The Enduring Legacy and Vision of Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah,” brought many together to celebrate his remarkable contributions to Ghana and Africa as a whole.
The NDC presidential candidate received a sincere plea from the Chief of Nkroful, Nana Kwasi Kutua V, asking him to give the Ellembelle district first priority.
“Nzema deserves better, we deserve better. We need good roads, hospitals, and modern infrastructure. It’s ironic that Nkroful, the birthplace of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, lacks a modern hospital. Nkrumah fought tirelessly for our independence, yet his hometown remains underserved,” he lamented.
Hon. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, the Ellembelle member of parliament, stressed the significance of upholding Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s legacy and the nation’s need to see to it that his vision is carried out.
“We’re celebrating Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah because, even 52 years after his passing, his legacy remains vital to Ghana’s survival. Imagine our country without the Akosombo Dam, Tema Harbour, or the Accra-Kumasi Motorway, which fuels business growth. Nkrumah’s vision and roadmap for economic freedom make him a remarkable leader worthy of recognition,” he Stated.
The former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, reiterated his dedication to enhancing the stature of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in Ghanaian history and turning the Journey to Nkroful into a major attraction for tourists.
“Before we continue to embrace Osagyefo’s vision, we must dispel the divisive debates trying to erase his legacy. The next NDC government, insha Allah, will restore Dr. Kwame Nkrumah’s rightful place in Ghana’s history by January 2025. This includes removing distortions and celebrating his impact”.
